The Australian Auto-Sport Alliance (AASA) has become a proud sponsor of the VSC 1200 Junior Sedans Speedway class.

The agreement will see the AASA sponsor not only the ‘Driver of the Year Award,’ but also all of the trophies at the end of year award ceremony, 22 in total. The agreement will have the AASA logo scattered throughout the class, on cars or signs etc.

The Victorian Speedway Council (VSC) 1200 Junior Sedans was created during the COVID-19 years affected years of 2020/21.

The category regulations are open to cars with a maximum engine capacity of 1200cc, a stock three or four-cylinder motor, with most cars rear-wheel drive.

This is a formula that had been run by Speedway Sedans Australia (SSA) since the 90s. However, in 2017 regulations were altered to allow engines up to 1500cc, power steering assistance, with all newer cars being front-wheel drive only.

This meant a large number of competitors and cars were left without a home, this was the reason that the Victorian Speedway Council resurrected the previous rule set.

“I thank AASA for sponsoring our Driver of the Year Award and going even further in sponsoring all the trophies for our end of season awards,” said Category Manager Brett Johnstone.

“As we continue to build our category, contributions like this have an outstanding value. It is great to see a motorsport business investing back into a grass root category.

“We thank AASA for the options they give to our VSC 1200 class, in particular to race on now, and into the future.”

The core of the category is about having fun and being able to compete at an affordable level.

“Those of us involved with 1200 Junior Sedans are very focused on keeping race days fun, friendships front and centre and costs down,” Johnstone explained.

“While an individual and competitive effort on track, I would challenge anyone to find a bigger team sport off it! That extends beyond the racing itself, to the people, the volunteers, officials, clubs and tracks.

“With drivers aged between 10 and 17, boys and girls, with different experience levels, we see an interesting dynamic where kids can become mentors at any moment.

“We have around 35% female participation, some of the girls are pretty keen in how often they race.

“Our category is working together with everyone to maximise our racing across Victoria and allow families to choose what suits them best.

“We thank the Australian Auto-Sport Alliance, Victorian Speedway Council, Speedway Australia, Speedway Sedans Victoria, Clubs and tracks that make it possible to race 1200 Junior Sedans in speedway.”
