The Hyper Racer X1 is Australia’s newest and best value open-wheeler category, which has grown very quickly in popularity since being selected as the car to contest the prestigious Australian Drivers’ Championship Gold Star title for 2024 onwards.

Australian race car manufacturer Hyper Racer has developed the X1 to be the world’s lightest full ground effects FIA safety approved race car, weighing in at under 400kg!

Hyper Racer X1 creator Dean Crooke says, “The result is the purest, lightest, most driver-focused racing car you will ever drive.” The car will sprint to 100km/h in around 2.5 seconds, can hit 200km/h in 8.0 seconds, and has a top speed of 230km/h. It also has 600kg of ‘ground effect’ downforce from its wings and underbody venturi tunnels.

In addition to the Australian market, Hyper Racer has also been exporting to the USA and UK. The global interest for the incredible value open-wheelers proves the demand for an extremely fast racing car that can be run on a modest budget.

For 2024 and beyond, CIRCO Brakes are the control brake pad supplier for the Australian Driver’s Championship. To meet specification compliance for the series, drivers must run the bespoke pads which are fitted to every car built and exported overseas. As well as brake pads, Hyper Racer has also made the switch to CIRCO MF1200+ brake fluid to ensure brake performance and reliability at heavy-braking circuits where big stops are required.

Making the switch to the X1 specific CIRCO pad compound in 2023 for product testing, Crooke and other drivers had a chance to experience the new pad. Initial feedback made clear that the CIRCO Brake provided better pedal feel and consistency throughout a session with a strong bite giving the driver the confidence to push the braking point when barrelling towards the 40 meter mark at 200kph!

“The previous brake pads we were using either did not have enough friction or needed a lot of temperature to work well and were difficult to bed in. After testing the CIRCO pads I was amazed at how much friction they had from low temperature and how consistent the brake feel was throughout a race. It was a natural progression to supply all Hyper Racer X1’s with CIRCO Brakes.”

CIRCO Brakes are proud to be part of the Hyper Racer X1’s growth and seeing who will be this year’s Gold Star winner.
