The NaZCAR Highlands 9 to 5 was the place to be this November as a staggering 50 teams took to the picturesque circuit for the themed budget endurance race.
In what would be a sensational first lemons event at Highlands, with everything from professional rally driver Hayden Paddon to a team of walking, talking traffic cones; the Highlands 9 to 5 truly had it all.
NaZCAR offers two categories, Lemons and Limes, with the former being a cheaper, slower and more fun oriented category with prizes for themes and team dress-ups, while the latter for faster cars and serious drivers looking to taste some epic wheel to wheel action.
Friday played host to scrutineering, documentation, the all important track walk and finally the Welcome Function where the teams were introduced to the many trophies up for grabs and ultimately had the chance to settle into the fun loving spirit of the event.
Race day came and went, and after a monster 222 laps of driving and bribing it was the Mighty HQ 24hr Lemon/Lime Team Checkered Past who took the Limes and outright victory. The team not only raised a considerable donation for the event charity M8 & ALEC Men’s Health Charity by Lee-Anne Wann, but were also caught helping other teams and showing love to the More FM Queenstown, Wānaka & Central Otago VIP experience winning family, exactly what we love to see!
A rather impressive three lap gap was all there was to the second outright and winner of the Lemons, the Crashing Cavaliers, who may or may not have bribed and donated their way to the position.
A huge congratulations from the AASA to all 50 teams who took on the event as well as to NaZCAR and Highlands for creating a truly special event we cannot wait to see return in 2025.
