For the very first time, the Victorian Motor Racing Championship (VMRC) will venture into South Australia, to race at the world-renowned Shell V-Power Motorsport Park from May 2-4.
It is set to be a cracking event featuring half a dozen categories in total, including a couple of national championships and several state racing series.
The Australian Auto Sport Alliance (AASA) sanctioned event will be held at the state-of-the-art venue around one hour south-east of Adelaide.
Friday is an optional practice day for competitors, Saturday will see qualifying sessions occur in the morning, before racing commences in the afternoon, Sunday will feature non-stop wheel-to-wheel racing all day long.
There are two Australian championships on the program, the ultra-fast Australian Drivers’ Championship and the mega powerful Australian Stock Car Championship.
The Australian Stock Car Championship grid is mainly built up of ex-NASCARs and AUSCARs, cars with real history that raced on the Thunderdome or around Adelaide International Raceway back in the day, some NASCARs even have U.S. racing history.
The category also contains TA2 cars and modified Aussie Saloon Cars, if you are a fan of bellowing V8s, this category is for you.
The Australian Drivers’ Championship (ADC) has been around for many decades but now runs under the AASA banner.
Fitting the ADC championship sees drivers compete in Aussie built machines, the vehicle is a Hyper X1, a ground-effect open-wheeler. As they have the same machinery the drivers make the difference, and the cream rises to the top.
ADC did visit the Shell V-Power Motorsport Park last year and produced four epic encounters, expect plenty of slipstreaming action again this time around.
Sports Compact remains one of the most popular VMRC categories, formerly known as 2 Litre Sports Sedans the category contains Nissan Bluebirds, Mini Coopers, Renault Clios, old school Toyota Corollas, 86s and so much more.
The door-to-door racing in this category is spectacular, entertainment is always guaranteed.
The same can be said for the Vic V8s, not only do they promise racing, they deliver quantity with grid sizes frequently over 20 cars.
This category is open to Aussie V8 muscle cars from any era, from the present day cars to the old classics including VK Commodores and XD Falcons.
Victorian Super TT contains an eclectic mix of vehicles that have been modified including Mazda RX7s, Mitsubishi Starions and even a Lotus Elise or two.
