The penultimate round of the Winton Sprint Series will take place this Saturday (August 17) and entries are still open to compete.
The Sprint Series is a very affordable way to start in grass roots motorsport without breaking the bank.

Each sprint event takes place at Winton Motor Raceway in country Victoria and sees each driver compete in five timed sessions.
The driver with the combined best standing start lap time and flying lap time at the end of the day takes the win in their class.
Your flying lap and standing start lap don’t need to be set in the same session; it is just the best combined time throughout the day.
You are not racing wheel to wheel against other competitors, just against the clock; however you will share the track with your rivals, the drivers that are also in your class. There are many classes from road registered vehicles to racing cars.

The classes are as follows, Road Registered up to 2L, Road Registered over 2L, High Performance up to 2L, High Performance over 2L, Racing Cars up to 2L, Racing Cars over 2L, Open Wheeler/Clubman and Juniors (under 18 years of age).

Class A1 is for road vehicles with an engine capacity equal to or less than 2 litres. Cages are not allowed in this class, R Spec Tyres are allowed, while slicks are not. A2 is the same as A1, however it is for cars with an engine capacity of over 2 litres.

B1 is for high performance vehicles with an engine of up 2 Litres. The engine must be forced induction and vehicles must be AWD, R Spec tyres are allowed while slick tyres are not. Any vehicle that has a cage but would be otherwise eligible for Class A1 will be put into this class. B2 is the same as B1 but for vehicles with a capacity of over 2 litres.

The C Class cars are racing machines. C1 is for any log booked vehicle, with an engine capacity equal to or less than 2 Litres, while C2 is for over 2l. C is also open to any vehicle that is running slick tyres, that is not eligible for Class D, or any vehicle that is deemed to be prepared to the level of a racing car.

D Class cars are for Open Wheel/Clubman race cars, or any motorcycle engine vehicles (e.g. Aussie Race Cars, Radicals etc). Tyres in this class are open.

Class E is simple, it’s for juniors, any driver under the age of 18.

Prior to the event, all cars will be checked for eligibility and be entered in a class the Clerk of Course deems appropriate.

The entry fee for this Saturday’s event is $190 per driver, this price includes the use of a garage or carport for the day. Benalla Auto Club Members get a 20% discount.

Gates open at 7am, with sign-on taking place until 9am. The Driver’s Briefing is set to commence at 8.30am, before track activity runs from 9am-5pm.

If you don’t have a competition licence don’t worry, a AASA Day Lisence can be purchased on the day of the event.
Any AASA day licence, AASA General Speed Event Licence and Motorsport Australia Licence holders are accepted for sprint events.

A helmet that complies with Australian Standards AS1698 can be used at the event, drivers must wear clothing that covers their wrist to neck to ankles and must be a non-flammable cotton, proper enclosed footwear must be worn also, no thongs or sandals.
